The first was the establishment of Pittsburgh’s first Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute (known as ARM), with support from the Department of Defense. The second innovation was the announcement a new global partnership between CMU and Tata (a large, India-based company). CMU and Pittsburgh beat out 2 other major competitive cities and universities including, San Francisco/Stanford and Boston/MIT.
