The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council — via a generous grant from the Hillman Foundation — has a new grant program for artists and organizations to create unique projects meant to “help propel artistic careers to the next level.” The Council will award $5,000 to $20,000 Lift Grants twice annually to artists, organizations, nonprofits, and artistic collaborations within Southwestern Pennsylvania (Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington, and Westmoreland counties).

Lift Grants aren’t for operational support, nor for ongoing, regularly scheduled projects and each project must have a public component of “community interaction.” They also can’t fund projects that are part of the curriculum for K-12 schools, projects created by students enrolled in art degree programs, projects that do not take place in any of the ten counties listed above, and projects that cannot be shared with the community.
