On Friday, September 11th, Zone 1 area residents will have the opportunity to join their neighbors and local police officers for coffee and conversation. There will be no agenda and no speeches for this event–just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the officers in the neighborhood.

Zone 1 Commander Lavonnie Bickerstaff was recently interviewed by The Northside Chronicle about the “Coffee with a Cop” program and had this to say:

Since starting in Northside after 25 years of service in a variety of specialty units, Bickerstaff was concerned about the community’s perception of local law enforcement. She found that through connecting with the community and forging stronger relationships with residents, a more personable perception could be created.

“I want to break down that concept of fear,” she said. “People don’t know every element involved in their safety. We want to make sure people know they’re safe and go above and beyond to do so.”

If you’re interested in improving police/community relations through conversation, please attend!
