Girls Rock! Pittsburgh empowers girls of “all definitions, abilities and backgrounds.” They’ve built a community where girls support each other rather than tear each other down through the making of music. Participants can play any kind of music they want. And while they do, they’re building their self-confidence, creative expression, independent thinking, and mutual respect and cooperation.
Girls Rock! Pittsburgh is entirely volunteer run. The organization has a commitment to community awareness and social agency. They give the girls the tools to recognize, understand, and respond to discrimination and to promote social change. So not only do the girls rock the music, they will continue to rock the Burgh in the best possible sense for years to come!
Young women and youths from ages 8 to 18 attended a band camp this week where they formed bands, learned instruments, wrote original songs and lyrics, designed merchandise, and recorded their hits. Now, they’re ready to perform for a live audience.
Please come out tomorrow and support the girls who rock Pittsburgh at their all ages showcase! They’ll be food trucks and a raffle too!
