The “We Rock Workshop” is a residency program led by Liz Berlin of Pittsburgh-based band Rusted Root. In its fifth year, it’s an intensive 18-week program that guides Allegheny County young adults (ages 14-22) who are involved with the Department of Human Services (including current and former foster youth) to open up through the arts by exploring the creation, production and performance of music and dance. The course culminates with the recording of original songs created by the participants and a final performance at Mr. Smalls Theatre. The final show is also fundraiser for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund.
The all ages “We Rock Workshop” Final Show is sponsored by Creative.Life.Support, the non-profit arm of Mr. Smalls Funhouse. It takes place Friday, May 8th at 7:00 p.m. It’s only $10 ($5 for students), and that includes a free dinner and soda. Foster and IL kids get in free as well as any staff that brings them. There are also VIP tickets for $25 which will get you a “We Rock Workshop” CD and T-Shirt!
You won’t want to miss these young aspiring artists when they perform their original songs that they wrote, recorded and perfected during their time with the “We Rock Workshop”!
Also appearing will be cosmic jazz chanteuse Phat Man Dee and Rusted Root’s Liz Berlin, who are both instructors for this program.
