Tomorrow, April 25th (rain or shine), you can get a glimpse of the future at FutureFest 2015. This new, public festival is being coordinated by Communitopia and will be held on the historic front lawn of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. FutureFest celebrates Pittsburgh’s successes and helps visitors to imagine our city’s achievable, sustainable future through art, demonstrations, music, science, food, and hands-on activities for all ages.

There will be cooking demonstrations by Food Revolution Pittsburgh Cooking Club and Phipps Cafe; aquaponics demonstrations from The Door Campaign; and music performances from Black Little Birds, Gene Stovall, Devin Moses & The Saved, Proper People, and Misaligned Mind. Other activities include morning tours of the new, modular SEED classroom at Phipps, a scavenger hunt with prizes, solar energy demonstrations, an artisan market, and much, much more. Additionally, Communitopia will premiere a new music video in its “Don’t Just Sit There – Do Something!” video series. It’s a parody of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” called “Break It Off” and it’s about the importance of transitioning to clean energy.

As this is Earth Week, you’ll probably want to bike, or walk, or take public transit to the festival. Phipps is near the center of Oakland, so you can take a 61 or 71 bus towards Oakland, and get off at Schenley Drive (Outbound 61s) or Bigelow (Inbound 61s, or any 71).

You can check out the festival web site for a full schedule of events.
