Pulitzer prize-winning playwright–and Pittsburgh native–August Wilson was born on April 27th and would have been 70 years old. In honor of his birthday, WQED’s The August Wilson Education Project is holding a “Celebrating August Wilson!” event on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from Noon to 3:00 p.m. And, Mayor Peduto has proclaimed Saturday “August Wilson Day” in a tribute to the Pittsburgh icon.

The “Celebrating August Wilson!” program will feature:

  • Student monologue performances
  • Workshops & other educational resources
  • Birthday tributes to August Wilson
  • A scene from the 11th Play Competition winner
  • A community collage
