As some two billion Christians all around the world–and here in Pittsburgh–make ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ tomorrow, the song “Let There Be Peace on Earth” takes on a particular urgency this year. Jesus’ teachings of brotherhood and peace–admired by believers and non believers alike–sometimes seem to be lost on our world.

But importantly, the song continues “and let it begin with me.” In Pittsburgh, we have seen those words put into action. Whether through the generosity of Pittsburghers responding to an emergency toy drive for our community’s children or through protests where all sides remained peaceful and respectful, our city has demonstrated our brotherly and sisterly love for each other.

As you gather with family and friends, may your day be filled with peace and joy and continued brotherhood in the spirit of this season.
