Love Your Block grants are a joint program of the City of Pittsburgh and The Home Depot Foundation that enable community groups and residents to revitalize our city one block at a time. Since its start in 2011, the program has engaged 3,994 volunteers and impacted 321 blocks with a grand total 117 projects completed in Pittsburgh!

This servePGH initiative has launched its 7th season this month with 13 projects. The program runs through November. Projects are happening all over the city from Fairywood to Lawrenceville; from Observatory Hill to Beechview. Tasks range from planting flowers, to cleaning city steps, to installing solar lights, to creating a children’s play area. Some upcoming projects include:

Organization: Grow Pittsburgh
Date/Time: Sept 20, 2014 9 am –12 pm
Location: 6538 Frankstown Ave
Project: Grow Pittsburgh will recruit residents to turn unused lot into a thriving garden tool lending library and resource center. Volunteers will build planters, install signage and plant perennials.

Organization: YWCA
Date/Time: Sept 20, 2014 9 am – 4 pm
Location: Corner of Frankstown Ave and Eastview St
Project: The YWCA will recruit residents to beautify a vacant lot turning it into a garden. Volunteers will plant flowers, lay mulch and collect litter.

Organization: West End Alliance
Date/Time: Sept 21, 2014 9 am – 4 pm
Location: W. Prospect Ave
Project: West End Alliance will recruit residents to beautify a vacant lot in Fairywood. Volunteers will remove overgrowth and plant flowers, trees and shrubs
