Calling all Shadyside Tree Tenders and Neighborhood Tree Sympathizers! You have less than a week to turn in your Tree Request Forms as they are due Thursday, Sept. 18th. Christine Graziano is collecting forms for the Shadyside neighborhood. You can drop them off at 5918 Elwood Street or text her at 917.734.5386 if you need her to come to you to pick them up. You can also call, text or email (studio.cgm @ gmail.com) her if you have any questions or want her to drop off a Tree Request Form to you or a neighbor.

There will also be one final Tree Request Form Walk in Shadyside tomorrow in an effort to promote the love of trees and collect more forms. Neighbors will meet at the corner of College and Elmer at 4:30 pm on Sunday, September 14th. You can help walk the neighborhood to drop off more forms for as long or as little as you like. You can also use that time to turn in your already completed forms.

Forms will be submitted to TreeVitalize for plantings to occur in the spring of 2015. TreeVitalize is a public-private partnership dedicated to protecting and restoring our urban forest. TreeVitalize has planted over 350,000 trees since its launch in 2004!

Tree Tenders are volunteers who take a total of 8 hours of course work to “learn about urban forestry practices, tree biology and health, proper planting, pruning, and maintenance, and lead their communities in organizing tree plantings and tree care there.” There are currently some 1,300 Tree Tenders in Pittsburgh. Those interested in becoming Tree Tenders can take upcoming classes next month on October 1, 8, and 15 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm in Lawrenceville (location TBD).
