Are you more of an Adele or a Joan Jett? A Rick Springfield or a Joey Ramone? Well, here’s your chance to strut your stuff — and all for a wonderful cause! On Saturday, October 20th, Haitian Families First will host “The 1st Annual LiVE Rock & Roll Karaoke Costume Party!” at the Shadow Lounge. Haitian Families First was founded two years ago by Pittsburgh’s own Jamie and Ali McMutrie. The McMutrie sisters gained national recognition in the aftermath of the devastating 2010 Haitian earthquake by fiercely advocating and successfully obtaining the safe evacuation of 54 children from their orphanage in that country. Haitian Families First is an American non-profit organization which “helps poor parents and birth families in Haiti keep their children, and, most importantly, helps children keep their families.”

From the Facebook event page:

Get your costume ready, check out the song list –http://on.fb.me/RBFBOi – choose your favorite song by an artist whose costume you think you can pull off (don’t worry, gender restrictions need not apply!), and post it on the wall below! We’ll jot down everyone’s choices to create the set list, and you will also have the chance to sign up the night of the event. Songs choices are first come first serve, no repeats.

You can also feel free to dress as ANYONE or NO ONE and sing ANY song you want!!

And as if ACTUALLY BEING BEYONCE isn’t AWESOME ENOUGH, the winner of the contest (yes, this a contest!) – judged by audience applause – will receive a PRIZE PACKAGE for The Scarehouse which includes 4 RIP tickets, a free t-shirt, cd, and lots of other ScareHouse items!!

So, dust off that flannel, leather or feather boa and post your choice on the above Facebook link. Tickets are $15 and, most importantly, 100% of the proceeds go directly to Haitian families via Haitian Families First. Councilman Bill Peduto will be a celebrity guest at this event. And, if you go, you’ll get to vote on which celebrity guest has to perform a song at midnight chosen by the hosts. Hmm, just think of the posibilities with that!

Also, if you are attending the New Pittsburgh Collaborative ‘Burgh Meets One Young World party (also at the Shadow Lounge) before the Rock & Roll Karaoke, you can get into the Haitian Families First event at a reduced rate.
