Community Human Services Corporation (CHS) supports more than 3,000 low income children, youth, adults, seniors, and families challenged by poverty and homelessness. On Friday, October 19th and Saturday, October 20th, they will hold a Sleep-in for the Homeless in Downtown Pittsburgh to raise awareness and funds for more than 1,500 local homeless individuals in Allegheny County. From their website:
The money raised makes a huge difference: $1,000 provides 400 meals to people experiencing homelessness, and it only takes $600 to prevent a family from being evicted and becoming homeless.
You can participate in three different ways. For a minimum of $25, you can participate in the event’s Evening Program; for a minimum of $35, you can have the Sleep-in Overnight Experience; or you can donate directly to them online here. The entire evening includes a dinner, powerful stories from people who have experienced homelessness, interactive art installations and exercises, a vigil, information on how to advocate and volunteer to end homelessness and a sleep-in at the Severe Weather Emergency Shelter. Councilman Bill Peduto will serve as MC for this event.
You can find out more information at the CHS website and register to participate there.
With your help, we can work together to end homelessness in our region!
